What’s in a name?

Peace/Piece? Ugg! Grammar is a pain! Don’t let anyone tell you different! Differently? Whatever! Naming my blog wasn’t hard. The name has been rolling around in my brain for years, just waiting to get out. I just had to get past the spelling/grammar issue.  So, here’s the story….

One night, Sugar Lips and I were driving around in the truck, as I like to call it, “putting the farm to bed.” It’s like therapy for me after a long, hard day of working off the farm.  This night, there was this beautiful rainbow, and I was taking pictures like crazy!  Then I snapped this picture of the old Case tractor sitting in the grass behind our house.  Sugar Lips tried to drive away.  He frowns on me taking pictures of junk.  I think he believes I am compiling them into a ‘To Do’ list of some sort!

But this tractor really made me smile.  I love this hunk of metal! I’ve heard stories for decades about how his sisters used to love to drive that tractor during hay season to work on their tan.  I remember taking the baby to my aunt’s house, so that I could rake hay on that beast while Sugar Lips drove the baler before a summer storm rolled in. This was the first brand new tractor that Papa remembers his father buying. I was struck by such an amazing feeling at that moment! I felt grounded, and connected to every, single person who had ever been a part of this machine’s history. This old, yellow tractor was the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow!

I remember wishing that I could share this with people. This peaceful, happy, amazing feeling that happens around here at the end of the day.  I wanted to share it with my coworkers, my friends, and my family.  I wanted to share it with complete strangers who might have grown up on a farm and have moved away and miss it so much. I wanted to share this feeling with anyone who has ever dreamed of living in the country. Maybe you don’t want to live here; trust me it’s tough, (and there’s that well water thing.) So, let’s keep in touch!  I can’t give you a piece of the farm, but I can share the peace of the farm and I am more than happy to do so!
